Hi Im Steve, I co-own and manage Places in the sun. Id like you to meet Josie, my business partner and wife. We relocated to Corfu some 6 years ago now and have never looked back. We have seen the island change a lot but one things remains the same. It is still a beautiful place to live and own a home. Between us we sell all manor of property and land on the island of Corfu and offer many types of aftersales. Renovations
Renovating a house, villa, apartment or indeed any property on Corfu is not a problem, we at Places in the Sun do not have any listed buildings and so all of the property on our data base can be renovated. It is easier to acquire a house or villa to renovate than an apartment but they are out there and have a charm all of their own. Building materials are reasonable and on average here on Corfu we compare very well with the rest of Europe. We have to be fair and say that most renovations are houses, they either attach to the village or stand in their own land. Villas are inclined to be new builds. If you are intending to buy a renovation on Corfu be it a villa, house or apartment there is plenty of help available.
Building a property
When building on Corfu you will need to be attached to a good agent who will put you in touch with a civil engineer and several builders that you can negotiate with. There are several ways of going about getting your dream home/property built.
1. Concrete builder. A building made entirely from concrete with metal structure running through it. Obviously very sturdy , very cool in summer but cold in winter so heating is required. Most properties need some sort of heating for the winter.
2. Timber frame building. These houses and villas are usually made to your specification their design resembles the old cottages in timber frame in England and some of those have been standing for 400 years. These homes are a bit cheaper than the concrete but look every bit as good. Corfu has taken these buildings on in the past 3 years in quite a big way. A fantastic way of building your dream property, villa or house.
3. Prefabricated buildings. These buildings are very like the timber frame properties with the look of a villa. The only difference in the end is that they are built in Athens and brought to your land on a lorry then a team build them on the land which you have chosen. These houses are one of the main forms of housing on Athens but have begun to be popular with Corfu in the last 2 years. They are built to your design and are very warm and appealing.

Corfu have an abundance of solicitors and lawyers but they do not all specialize in the conveyance of property , our people are recommended just because they are specialist.
