The island of Viros
Updated April 13 2006
Just accross from the old port in Corfu town lies the Island of Viros, a small uninhabited Island but with a lot of intersest for the visitor to corfu. During the summer months , you can board a boat on the harbourside and for 5euro return you can have a visit to Viros , we stayed for the entire evening and had dinner at the resturant ,this was a really special trip as we ate good food and looked back on the sea with the lights of Corfu Town and the port as a backdrop. There are paths marked out and lit so that the Island can be explored and I believe it is used today as a scout camp. There is a lovely old house almost a mansion in the centre.
Viros was some 30 years ago a prison for greek children ( I have been told) the locals call it Alcatraz as a joke.
If it was a prison I bet the walden lived in the lovely mansion.
